A bush chain is very like the roller chain. Nevertheless, it does not have friction – reducing rollers and can be thus ideal rather for lower generating speeds. The permitted standard movement speeds of the slow-running bush chains range from 
0.3 m/sec to at least one 1.2 m/sec, with no more than 3.0 m/sec. Bush chains are most regularly used in applications requiring continuous operation under coarse working circumstances as well as operation in warm and humid environment where the use of belt drives would be inappropriate.
